*This recipe is adapted from the Kiwi Crate Box company – specifically from the Atlas Sweden box and is an easy, simple, fun recipe to try with kids.
INGREDIENTS:
- 4-5 medium apples (peeled, sliced, cored, and sliced)*
- 1 ¼ cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- dash of cardamom (optional)
- ¾ cup butter
- 1 cup flour
- 1 egg
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1
PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees and put apple slices in a pie dish.
Step 2
COMBINE ¼ cup of the sugar, along with the cinnamon & cardamom (if using), and sprinkle it over the apples. Gently toss the apples to coat them evenly in the sugar & spice.
Step 3
MELT butter in a medium size bowl in the microwave (or in a small saucepan).
Step 4
STIR the remaining cup of sugar and the flour into the butter to combine (if using a saucepan to melt butter be sure to remove from heat and add to a medium size bowl first). THEN mix the egg in.
Step 5
POUR the mixture into the pie pan (over the apples). Use the back of a spoon to spread the mixture over the apples.
Step 6
BAKE for 45 minutes. That’s it!
Add ice cream or whipped cream if desired. This is great hot or cold.
*we typically have honey-crisp apples in our house and have use these most often when making this recipe, but traditional baking green apples would be great with this also.
